Arizona Schools Improving
Friday August 1, 2003
School Superintendent Tom Horne today released Stanford 9 test results showing Arizona students performing above the national average in almost every category, and showing improvements in all categories.
“The focus of my administration is to accelerate improvement in student performance,” Superintendent Tom Horne said. “To this end we are emphasizing school improvement, solutions teams to help underperforming schools, and seminars for schools in education best practices,” Horne said. The spring 2003 Stanford 9 results will be used to calculate the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP). MAP indicates whether students achieve “one year’s academic growth” and is included in the school classification formula. The school classifications are the cornerstone of the Arizona LEARNS school accountability system.
