Tempe Bike Week

The city of Tempe Transit Office, Tempe in Motion, will hold its annual Bike Week 2004 April 17 through 25 to encourage people to use bikes as an alternative mode of transportation. Tempe Bike Week activities include a community celebration of the new College Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian
Bridge and Bike to Work and School Day.
Bike to Work and School Day
Tempe's annual Bike to Work and School Day 2004 is set for April 21 to encourage people to use bikes as an alternative mode of transportation. All riders will receive free breakfast snacks and the first 300 riders will receive free T-shirts. Participants should bike between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. to one of the following breakfast locations:
Whole Foods Market, 5120 S. Rural Road, at the northwest corner of Rural and Baseline roads
Mill's End Cafe, 310 S. Mill Ave., at the southwest corner of Mill Avenue and Third Street in downtown Tempe
Wildflower Bread Company, 6428 S. McClintock Drive, at the southwest corner of McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road
Berning's Fine Jewelry, 1721 E. Warner Road, at the southwest corner of McClintock Drive and Warner Road
Mayor's Ride
Mayor Neil Giuliano's annual ride will begin at 7:30 a.m. on April 21. Members of the City Council, the Bicycle Advisory Committee and other residents will meet at Whole Foods Market and bike to Mill's End Cafe in downtown Tempe. The public is encouraged to participate.
College Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge and Public Art Celebration
The final event of Bike Week will be the College Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge and Public Art Celebration on April 24. Residents are encouraged to join project artist Michael Maglich and community members in celebrating the new, artist-designed Tempe College Avenue Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge. Residents should meet at 8:30 a.m. at Palmer Park, College Avenue & south side of U.S. Route 60. All participants will receive free breakfast snacks and the first 100 people will receive free T-shirts.
Discounted Bicycle Tune-Ups
During Bike Week, residents are encouraged to stop by the following bicycle stores in Tempe and receive discounted bicycle tune-ups:
Installation of the new artist-designed Country Club Way Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge is scheduled for mid-April. The bridge will provide new opportunities for bicyclists, joggers and pedestrians and will connect neighborhoods adjacent to Cole Park with neighborhoods on the north side of the U.S. 60.
Tempe Bike Week sponsors include Berning's Fine Jewelry, Mill's End Cafe, Whole Foods Market, Wildflower Bread Company, Ehrhardt's Schwinn, Bicycle Wheelers, Domenics Cycling, Landis Cyclery, Tempe Bicycle, Einstein Bros Bagels, REI and Tempe in Motion.
