Ozone Alerts

Sunday May 2, 2004
The Clean Air Campaign began in 1987 with the goal to reduce air pollution in the Valley through increased public awareness and participation in alternative modes of transportation. Throughout the year, the Valley of the Sun is challenged, in the face of incredible population growth, with reducing the amount of ozone, particulates, carbon monoxide and other pollutants that threaten the health of our citizens. Now that the temperatures are up, we are officially in the Summer Ozone Season. Want to know what you can do to reduce ozone levels?
  • Avoid peak-hour travel.
  • Make sure your vehicle's fuel cap is tightly secured.
  • Refuel after 4 p.m.
  • Limit engine idling.
  • Delay painting projects until the cooler months. When painting, use water-based products.
  • Avoid spilling gasoline.
  • Don't use your gasoline-powered lawn and garden equipment, especially before 4 p.m. Even better, buy electric gardening equipment.
  • Avoid stop and go traffic.
  • Use alternatives to charcoal for outdoor barbecues.
  • Eat in! Brown bag your lunch.
  • Run errands after work when there is less traffic.
