Monsoon's Not a Joke
Thursday August 12, 2004
The death toll from yesterday's multi-car pile-up on the westbound I-10 is now 4, and there are still more than 40 injured who are being cared for in hospitals across the Valley.
Apparently, during a severe dust storm, two vehicles collided in a non-injury collision which left one of those vehicles disabled. Due to low visibility, a third driver didn't see the disabled vehicle, struck it, and headed into the median and struck another vehicle. The car was traveling at a high rate of speed in low visibility. When it hit the first vehicle, it had enough impact to send it flying 160 feet. Two of the people who died were in those first two vehicles.
I couldn't help but notice that many of the dead and injured were not from Arizona. They may have been caught by surprise. Our monsoon storms may not look like much on TV, but they can be serious, and they were deadly yesterday. These saftey tips could save your life.
