World's Best Skateboarders Visit Glendale
Friday January 7, 2005
The world's top professional skateboarders - Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek and Andy MacDonald - will be performing jaw-dropping tricks, signing autographs, and speaking to kids on the importance of wearing helmets and safety pads at a special performance in Glendale. This event will be a real treat for Glendale youth and may be the only opportunity they have to meet international skateboard idols.
The free community event is a "sneak peak" preview of Tony Hawk's Boom Boom Huckjam tour that is making a stop at the Glendale Arena on Friday, Jan. 14. The show - featuring skateboarders, BMXers and motocross freestyle riders - is being taped for a FOX TV network special that will be broadcast nationally on Super Bowl Sunday.
Skateboard legend Tony Hawk has donated both his time and money in support of public skate parks around the country. Hawk, along with Bob Burnquist, Bucky Lasek and Andy MacDonald, are extremely supportive of public skate parks and are grateful of cities, such as Glendale, for providing public facilities where kids can safely ride. This free exhibition is the pro riders' way of recognizing Glendale for providing area youth with their own skate park.
Glendale Skate Court is located at 57th Avenue and Union Hills Drive (one mile north of Bell Road). The skaters will appear on Monday, January 10, 2005 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (note: The event will be cancelled if it is raining at 2 p.m.)
