Arizona Laws Protect Small Children

Monday December 12, 2005
Did you know that...
...motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children two years of age and for people of every age from four to 34 years.

...80% of child safety seats are improperly installed and are a potential source of injury for children, up from 73% in 2004.

...at least 80 percent of children who should ride in booster seats currently do not.

...Arizona's child seat safety law says that all children must ride in a safety seat until they are 5 years old, and all children under 8 years of age and 4'9" should be secured in child safety/booster seats.
On Saturday, December 17, 2005 there will be a Child Safety Seat Inspection and Installation Fair in Phoenix. Actor Erik Estrada will also be on hand to help spread the safety message and sign autographs.

Specially trained Arizona DPS officers will inspect, install and, if necessary, replace safety seats donated by 21st Century Insurance for local residents.

Participants will be assisted on a first come, first served basis. 21st will donate new safety seats for families who have broken, outdated, or recalled safety seats. Since the program began four years ago, more than 5,700 safety seat inspections have been conducted, more than 2,400 broken, outdated or recalled child safety seats have been destroyed, and 21st Century Insurance has donated more than 4,600 new child safety seats to families in need all over the U.S.
