Phoenix Serial Killers

Wednesday July 12, 2006
Serial Killer in Phoenix Have you seen this man?

There are serial killers on the loose in Phoenix. Three gunmen who have killed nine people and assaulted others in more than 50 attacks since last year are creating heightened tension in the Valley of the Sun.

Over the past year, the individual pictured here may be responsible for up to 25 violent crimes involving robberies, sexual assaults, and homicides, most of which have occurred in the Baseline Corridor, south of downtown Phoenix. The crimes associated with this serial killer date back to August 2005.

This composite drawing, provided courtesy of Silent Witness, was created based on witness and victim accounts. He is believed to use disguises and change his appearance. He is a black male, between 25 and 40 years old, between 5’6” and 6’ tall, 140-200lbs. He usually wears a long sleeve shirt with khaki pants. In some of the earlier incidents, he was described as being bald or shaved head. In the later incidents, he was described as having long hair, possibly a wig.

Phoenix area authorities say they are also looking for someone who has shot 34 people at random in the past year as they walked or rode bicycles, killing four. The shootings were all random there were no witnesses. The victims all were walking alone, riding a bicycle or pushing one when the shootings occurred. This suspect is believed to have a light-colored sedan.

A third series of 13 random shootings has Phoenix police in a situation they've not encountered before and asking for the community's help to solve these crimes. They do not believe that the three serial criminals are related in any way, but they don't have much evidence yet.

Here is a map of the shooting locations. You can provide information to the Phoenix Police Department about any of these suspects by calling (602) 262-6141, but you will not be considered for a Silent Witness reward and your anonymity can not be guaranteed if you have not first contacted Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.

I’m an Australian in Phoenix, and thank goodness I’m getting out of a state shortly that allows such loose gun laws. Worldwide violent crime statistics clearly show that when guns are availabble, murder and accidental shootings increase. I would not be surprised is these serial killers are using guns stolen from people that are legally permitted to have one, but nobody should have one in my opinion.

To Stephanie from Australia, how safe is it in Australia when each year, around 30,000 people are reported missing in Australia—one person every 18 minutes. I think some perspective is needed here. This is not a safe world we live in no matter where you are.

as another australian glad to get out of phoenix i would like to make the point to mr mcroberts that missing is not murdered. the usa has a murder rate of 5.5/100000, australia 1/100000. i think that stat says it all. australia is much safer. 5 times safer in fact.

Dear Nigel,
Missing isn’t murdered? So where you think those people are? Do you think that everyone of them just decided not to go home? Just say they’re dead ok, where does that leave you? Exactly. I agree with Mr.Mcroberts. This whole world, not just the USA is full of sick people and that includes Australia. So please remove yourself from your high horse.

Living in Arizona I am following this closely. Wondering about the serial shooter specifically. I know that a problem catching him is due to no witnesses and his random shooting. No
apparent motive. But who is trained to shoot like that? All torso shots, from behind. No one sees anything, hears anything. Get the sense this guy is practicing. Military trained?????

Did they ever catch these guys? It seems there’s a whole load of stories, from around July time, about these serial killings, but no updates, anywhere on the web. Are these killers still at large? Are people still being killed?
