Arizona Proposition 205: Vote By Mail
In November 2006 voters in Arizona will address Proposition 205, sponsored by Your Right To Vote. That measure would require every state, county and local election to be conducted by mail-in ballots. Each registered voter would automatically be mailed a ballot along with a prepaid, stamped envelope for the return of the voted ballot. Only the absolute minimum number of polling places in each county would be maintained. Click on "Read more" to see a synopsis of the pros and cons and find more information about this ballot measure.
Poll: Will you vote in favor of Proposition 205?
1) Yes, I think all voting in Arizona should be conducted by mail.
2) No, I don't think Arizona should implement statewide voting by mail.
Advocates of Proposition 205 say that by casting votes in comfort and privacy, the voters can study the issues and vote in a leisurely manner, and complicated ballots could be better evaluated. More people would vote because it would be easier and take less time. Mail balloting is cheaper and easier to conduct than traditional elections.
Opponents to Proposition 205 say that Arizona voters already have the right to vote by mail, in addition to the right to vote at a polling location in our local neighborhood. If this proposition passes, the right to vote at our local polling places would be severely limited. This proposal increases the potential for voter fraud, bad faith legal challenges, and coercion associated with the entirely vote-by-mail system.
