Do you sew, crochet, or quilt? Then this is a project for you! Blankets of Gratitude is a special project designed to deliver a little bit of love and support to the very special residents of the Arizona State Veterans Home. They are looking for people who can make a blanket for one of Arizona's veterans. The blankets should be small in size (throw blanket size, ideal for wheelchair users) and should feature a patch or logo for one of 4 branches of military (Army, Marines, Air Force, or Navy). They need 200 blankets total, so that each resident receives a blanket with their service logo for Christmas.
Each blanket should:
- Come with a holiday card or thank you note to the veteran from the person who made the blanket, contact information optional. Your card will be delivered to the veteran who receives your blanket.
- Be small in size (throw blanket size ideal for wheelchair users)
- Be delivered to the drop off location or picked-up by Blankets of Gratitude as soon as possible but no later than December 10, 2006 in order to get them delivered to our veterans by Christmas.
- Have the logo of ONE of 4 branches of service somewhere on the blanket (either in a patch, pin, or sewn on piece of fabric. Patches can be purchased very cost effectively (under $5) at www.4armedforces.com or www.soldiercity.com. If you need help finding a patch or logo fabric, please contact us by email, Blankets4Vets@aol.com and we will work to get you one. If you complete a blanket without a patch, please let us know, and we will add a patch or logo item to the blanket before delivery.
- There are no special instructions for making the blankets. Please use whatever fabric or method (crochet, sewing, quilting, etc) that you like.
Blankets of Gratitude hopes to have 200 blankets total by Dec. 10. They'd like to deliver a unique, hand-made blanket to each veteran at the AZ State Veterans home in Phoenix.
For more information or to schedule a pick-up of completed blankets, please email Blankets4Vets@aol.com or call (602) 319-8988.
