Mesa Arizona Temple Christmas Lights I've lived in the Valley of the Sun for more than 27 years now, and until this weekend I had never visited the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You don't have to be Mormon to walk the grounds absolutely filled with holiday lights, walk through the Visitor Center and see the Nativity Scene collections, and listen to a holiday concert, all free of charge. Yes, someone is bound to offer you an opportunity to learn more about the Church, but you may politely decline if you aren't interested!

There are concerts every evening at 7 p.m. through December 20, 2006. The entire family is invited. Here are some tips about visiting:

  • Bring your camera!
  • Bring a bottle of water or soft drink. There is a water fountain in the Visitor Center, but nothing else is available.
  • Assume it will be at least 10°F colder than you think it will be. The concerts are outdoors, near their reflecting pool (which makes it colder), and if there's a breeze it will feel downright frigid. Wear a winter coat, and bring gloves.
  • The chairs are metal--bring a blanket to sit on.
  • Make sure you have found your seat at by 6:30 p.m. and a bit earlier on weekends. Standing room only is a common occurrence.
