Hey~ Do you know if the roof at the stadium will be open for the Fiesta Bowl on January 1? Thanks~Honestly, I didn't know the answer, but I was able to find out--the roof will be closed. I guess the blimp won't get a good view of that game!
No matter what you are doing in the next few days, you are bound to be impacted by a bowl game or bowl game event! Tomorrow is the Fiesta Bowl Band Championship at University of Phoenix Stadium. Friday is the Insight Bowl in Tempe. Saturday is the Fiesta Bowl Parade in central Phoenix. Sunday is the Fiesta Bowl Block Party in Tempe. Monday is the Fiesta Bowl. Then next week there's the BCS Championship Game. Honestly, if you don't have to be driving about, I'd stay home! For those of you attending one of these events, the crowds will be even bigger than usual because so many people are in town for the three big games.
As far as transportation to the Fiesta Bowl and the BCS Championship, everyone will be driving as there is really no established public transportation to University of Phoenix Stadium. That means leave lots of extra time, and bring your patience and good spirits. Make sure you go to the restroom before getting in your car on the way to the Stadium, and before you leave the Stadium!
Parking is located in the surrounding areas of University of Phoenix Stadium. Parking lots for buses and RVs open at 9:00 a.m. on game day. All other lots open at 11:00 a.m. Parking passes are $30 per car, $150 per RV, and $250 per bus.
There is no oversized vehicle overflow parking, therefore, all RVs and tour buses must have a pre-paid pass and must park in designated lots only.
A limited number of pay-at-the-gate parking spaces are available off-site in the Brown Lot (southeast corner of 91st Avenue and Orangewood Avenue). These spaces are $30. A free shuttle will run on the day of the game between the Brown Lot and the stadium starting at 4 p.m. and ending one hour following the game.
Here's a map of the parking lots. If you decide to arrange for a taxi instead of trying to park, you can see where the taxi staging area is on the BCS parking map.
If you get there several hours before games time and have nothing to do, you can always walk over to Cabela's and do some shopping. They have a cafeteria, too. But I guess they'll be overflowing as well....

I was wondering the same thing about the BCS game on Jan. 8th. Will the roof be closed for that game as well?
Yes, the roof will be closed for the BCS game on Jan 8, 2007.
