Masterpiece Replayed, Again
As I recommended to others, I purchased the tickets as a holiday gift for someone that I knew would take me with them. Clever, eh? I rarely miss one of this museum's special exhibitions, since they are always so well done. I can tell you that I was not disappointed at this one. The theme here was very unusual and so interesting. That is, why did so many artists create many versions of the same work of art? Hence the exhibit name, Masterpiece Replayed. The examples presented were amazing, and I'm certain this collection was very difficult to bring together for one exhibit. After all, there are many different owners of several of the works used to exemplify the artistic process and purpose.
Thank you, Phoenix Art Museum, for replacing those Audio Tour phones that we held up to our ears during the last special exhibition. I found them unwieldy. I must not have been the only one, because this year the Audio Guide is offered on a PDA. Warning: If you bring someone who isn't computer or PDA savvy, ask for the written notes. You don't want the frustration of using the equipment to overshadow the wonderful exhibit.
This is one of those specially ticketed exhibits at Phoenix Art Museum; you can't see it by just showing up and paying the regular museum admission. You can, however, buy tickets online for a specific date and time. Alternatively, you can just show up and, if it isn't sold out, you can purchase a ticket at the main entrance box office. Children are welcome, but I don't believe there was a child's version of the Audio Guide at this exhibit, so they should probably be a bit older to grasp the concepts presented. Or, they can just enjoy the magnificent art.
