Our American Idols - One Girl and One Guy

Friday March 7, 2008
I thought it was pretty amazing that two people from the Phoenix area made it to the top 24 for American Idol and got the chance to compete to take over the crown earned by Jordin Sparks last year as the AI winner. Now, American Idol has pared it down to twelve -- six males and six females. And Arizona hopefuls David Hernandez and Brooke White are still among them. Here are some photos from the Top 12 party in Hollywood.

I had no doubt they'd be there. As far as I am concerned there is an obvious delineation between the ones who really have a shot at winning and those who don't And we haven't approached it yet. I think the next four to be released will be easy decisions. Will Brooke White and David Hernandez be among those?

My prediction: Brooke White will make it pretty far (top 4), but she'll have to show a bit more style versatility and performance skill to win. As far as David Hernandez, gay-male-stripper or not, I don't think he can go much further, although I thought his performance of "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" last week showed me something about him as a singer that I hadn't seen before. David doesn't have a personality for me yet, except when he gives that smirky look. I don't think he can win over America. I think he's only got one or two weeks to go. In any case, both of their careers should do well, having gotten this far.

My feeling is that the top 4 will turn out to be David Cook, David Archuleta, Carly Smithson and Brooke White. What are your predictions for our Arizona hopefuls?
