The Arizona Diamondbacks today announced that they have come to an agreement with the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community to play Cactus League baseball at a new stadium to be built on Community land. It is the first Major League spring training facility in the U.S. to be built on Indian land. The Colorado Rockies will join the Dbacks at the new stadium. The stadium will be designed by the same firm, HKS Architects, who designed Camelback Ranch, which debuted in 2009.

The first season in the new stadium will be 2011. It will have about 11,000 seats, 12 practice fields, Major and Minor League clubhouses, training facilities, and offices for each team. The site for the new Spring Training home of the Diamondbacks and Rockies will be located on 140 acres near Indian Bend Road and the 101 Freeway.
