What: Introduction to Xeriscape - Basic Desert Gardening
When: Wednesday, October 20, 2010 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Avondale City Hall, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive
It's possible to create beautiful, inviting landscapes with plants native to our own "back yard." Learn how to use wonderful natives to design a low maintenance and water-thrifty garden.
What: American Ballet Theatre ABT II
When: October 20, 21, 27 & 28, 2010 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Warehouse Studio, Benner-Nawman, 3450 Sabin Brown Road, Wickenburg
ABT II is comprised of twelve young dancers, ages 16-19, handpicked from around the world to train for the full ABT Company. The public may watch the Open Rehearsals. ABT II will conclude their two-week residency by world premiering their new dance on the Webb Center's stage, Saturday, October 30 at 7:30 p.m., with a free performance. What: Free Movie Night
When: Saturday, October 23, 2010. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.
Where: Mesa Amphitheatre
It's a double-feature! Gather the family down to see Casper (PG) the friendliest ghost at 6 p.m. or plan for a date night and bring the older kids to watch the thriller, The Ring (PG-13) at 8 p.m. Bounce houses, children activities and concessions will be available.
What: Andora Trails Grand Opening
When: Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Gilbert, south side of Riggs Road between Higley Road and Val Vista Drive
A model grand opening event. While touring the model homes, you can enjoy barbecue, refreshments and festive treats handed out at each of the models. There will be a Balloon Artist, Video Game Truck, Trick or Treating and a Children's Costume Contest.
What: Financial Planning Day
When: Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Mesa Convention Center
Mesa-area residents will be able to get free financial planning advice and guidance from professional financial planners at Mesa Financial Planning Day. The event will feature experts from the Financial Planning Association® and highly qualified Certified Financial Planner™ professionals, all volunteering their time and expertise to work with local residents one-on-one to address important financial issues. Residents must complete a simple four-question survey about the financial topics they are most interested in learning about such as budgeting, investing, credit repair, tax planning and home ownership. This data will help to select the topics that are most important to Mesa residents and choose financial planners for the one-on-one sessions. Register online.
What: Is The Library Haunted?

Where: Civic Center Library Auditorium, Scottsdale
Have you ever wondered if the library is haunted? Well now you can find out! Sonoran TAPS will be here to talk about how they hunt ghosts, answer your questions and will answer the question, "Is the Library haunted?" Registration recommended.
What: Photography: Professional Tips and Techniques
When: Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Foothills Library, 19055 N 57th Avenue, Glendale
Professional photographer Richard Maack will provide tips for making your photographs the best can they can be. This presentation will be illustrated with spectacular images from Richard's work with Arizona Highways magazine and as staff photographer for Lindblad/National Geographic Expeditions to Costa Rica, Panama, the Galapagos Islands, the British Isles, the Baltic region, and Western Europe. What: ASU-MIM Wednesday Morning Interludes
When: Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: MIM Music Theatre, Phoenix
The Musical Instrument Museum (MIM) and Arizona State University's School of Music have teamed up to offer an ongoing music series showcasing the prodigious talents of ASU faculty members and touring musicians. Museum admission not required; theater seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis. At this session: Katie McLin, violin, and Andrew Campbell, piano.
