This column includes announcements of seminars, workshops, community events, fundraisers and other programs for which there is an admission charge, a donation expected or you are otherwise expected to spend money, such as shopping events. Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

What: Writers Unite to Fight Cancer
When: Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Arizona Biltmore, 2400 E. Missouri, Phoenix
Celebrate Arizona's 100th birthday with authors who have come together to battle cancer. They will sign and sell their books at this event and donate $1 per book sold toward cancer research, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine Cancer Research Project and The University of Arizona Cancer Center Natural Products Research Project. The first 160 guests to arrive at the event will receive a copy of Five to Thrive by Lise Alschuler, ND and Karolyn Gazella in their complimentary Gift Bags. The rest of the guests will receive another book about cancer or signed book from one of the authors participating in the event. Gift bags will also contain vendor samples, coupons and educational materials on prevention and treatment options for cancer as well as cancer resources. Guest speakers, live music, silent auction. Jude LaCava and Francis Battaglia emcee. Admission Fee is a suggested $20.00 donation.
What: Performances at the Museum: "Songs of Hope, Songs for Change"
When: Friday, February 3, 2012 at 7 p.m.
Where: Tempe History Museum
A folk music concert fundraiser for Radio Phoenix and the Tempe Historical Society. Join Charlie King and Karen Brandow, musical storytellers, who sing passionately about the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. They will make you laugh, cry and leave you with a new strength to carry on the fight for justice and democracy. The concert is presented by the Tempe Historical Society and Radio Phoenix, Arizona's largest all-volunteer, community-based Internet radio station. Light refreshments will be available. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased online or by calling (480) 350-5100.
What: USA Belly Dance Queen Show
When: Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 6 p.m.
Where: Wild Horse Pass Hotel & Casino, Chandler
The USA Belly Dance Queen Competition feature an Intriguing glimpse into the many traditional styles of Belly Dancing, and at the end you will witness the chosen winner of The 2012 USA Belly Dance Queen Competition. The USA Belly Dance Queen Competition is held in part to help bridge cultural gaps through dance and tradition by featuring Classical Egyptian and cabaret styles, and the more current popular styles with troupes and fusion categories. The night features a line-up of Belly Dancers from around the world, Surprise Celebrity Guest Belly Dance performance, vendors where you can shop for exotic décor, tribal jewelry, and couture dance fashions. Tickets $10.
What: Vistancia Health Festival
When: Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Vistancia Mountain Vista Club, 29701 E. Sunrise Point, Peoria
Health and wellness assessments, a rock climbing wall, kids' bounce houses, a racing simulator, crafts and other local exhibits will be featured. Event goers can also compete in a hole-in-one challenge to win $10,000. In addition, a one-mile walk to benefit Childhelp, Vistancia Elementary, Lake Pleasant Elementary and Team Wish, will get underway at 11 a.m. at the Discovery Trail. $20 donation per family or $10 donation per individual. Walkers may designate the organization of their choice from among the four charities. Pre-register online or on the day of the event. All participants receive a free gift bag. What: Kidproof - Cybersafe
When: Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Rio Vista Recreation Center, Peoria
Can your child recognize dangers or unsafe situations when using the Internet? Students will learn these skills and more through non-threatening and entertaining lessons geared to teach Internet safety. Rules for sharing personal information and avoiding online bullies or predators; instant messaging with friends; and the importance of communication with parents will be covered. What: "Have a Heart" for the Animals
When: Saturday, February 4, 2012 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Where: The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, Scottsdale
An evening of dining and dancing hosted by TV and Radio Personality Pat McMahon. Music by Alice Tatum. Live and Silent Auction. Cocktail attire. $150 single, $275 couple. For tickets call 480-473-1946.
What: Valley Youth Theatre presents Charlotte's Web
When: From February 3 through February 19, 2012
Where: Valley Youth Theatre, 807 N. Third St., Phoenix
This family-friendly show opens with a cupcake reception on February 3 and a free petting zoo on Saturday, Feb. 4. Children must be supervised by adult ticket holders during this 'meet-and-grunt' with pigs and other barnyard animals from Carter's Mobile Petting Zoo between performances from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

What: Phoenix CFA Society's Market Forecast Dinner
When: Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.
Where: Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix
This year's dinner brings together a panel of experts to discuss and debate the various crosscurrents affecting economic, financial and geopolitical market conditions. Vinny Catalano, president, Blue Marble Research, a leading investment strategist, asset manager and global economic and capital market expert, serves as the moderator for the panel.
