This column includes announcements of seminars, workshops, community events, fundraisers and other programs for which there is an admission charge, a donation expected or you are otherwise expected to spend money, such as shopping events. Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

What: Archery 101
When: Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 5 p.m. and at 5:45 p.m. (two sessions)
Where: an Tan Mountain Regional Park - Visitor Center, 6533 W. Phillips Rd., Queen Creek
Maricopa County Parks and Recreation and Arizona Game and Fish introduce participants to archery. Ages 8 and up are welcome to participate in the fun and safe sport of International Target Style Archery. Equipment provided. Reserve a spot by calling 480.655.5554. Adults are welcome to participate too. You must wear closed-toed shoes. Park entry fee $6 per car.
What: Idol in the Skye
When: Saturday, May 5, 2012 from noon to 2 p.m. (Audition Date)
Where: SKYE, 16844 N. Arrowhead Fountain Center Drive, Peoria
SKYE'S search to find Arizona's newest singing sensation is intended to encourage up and coming local talent to pursue their dreams of performing. Contestants compete each week as they work with a live band and a packed house in The Platinum Room. Industry professionals are on hand throughout the competition to critique and mentor contestants. Besides show tickets and the chance to perform at SKYE, this year's Grand Prize is $2,500.00 in cash and 25 hours of recording studio time. Auditions are underway for talented performers for Season 6 of Idol in the Skye. There is also a junior version open to anyone between the ages of 12 and 16 years old.

What: Yoga Rocks the Park
When: Sunday, May 6, 2012 at 2 p.m.
Where: Steele Indian School Park, Phoenix
Yoga Rocks the Park offers live music, instruction from top local and national instructors, a wellness vendor area along with a children's program, Camp Yoga Rocks (ages 5 - 10). $10 per person if purchased in advance online. Registration opens at 1 p.m. day of event, $15 per person.
What: Fight at the Fields
When: Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, Scottsdale
Fight at the Fields, an adrenaline-packed Mixed Martial Arts event produced by the World Fighting Federation (WFF), comes to
Salt River Fields. The main event, a middleweight title, features Edgar Garcia, an Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran, versus Patrick Dixon. This night will feature eight professional fights and eight amateur fights. Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets start at $15 and go as high as $150 and are available for purchase online.
What: La Cage Aux Folles Tea Party
When: Thursday, May 17, 2012 from noon to 2 p.m.
Where: The Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix, 2401 East Camelback Road
Guests of The Ritz-Carlton, Phoenix will have an exclusive chance to enjoy afternoon tea with the cast of the critically acclaimed production of La Cage Auz Folles starring George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber, coming to ASU Gammage, May 15-20 for eight performances only. Tickets to the tea and musical are on sale now. The La Cage tea will include a traditional Full Tea including assorted finger sandwiches, fresh scones and tea-infused pastries as well as a musical accompaniment of the entire score from Phoenix's most acclaimed pianist Nicole Pesce. Each guest will have the chance to mingle with cast members, receive a La Cage gift and be entered for a chance to win a La Cage prize. Tickets to the tea are $38 plus tax and gratuity. What: Create PetitFours
When: Sunday, May 20, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center, 5600 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale
Learn to make the most elegant Tiffany Box Petit Fours and how to melt chocolate, use molds and use tips in creating these beautiful and tasty boxes. A $15 supply fee collected at class. Class price is $34 and $41 for non-Glendale residents. Preregistration required; call 623-930-4600.
