Follow me on:

In this issue: comedy with a guitar, family fishing, stargazing event, Beatles tribute band, charity pool party and a burlesque show.

This column includes announcements of seminars, workshops, community events, fundraisers and other programs for which there is an admission charge, a donation expected or you are otherwise expected to spend money, such as shopping events. Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

If you are looking for programs or activities where there is no charge for admission, you can check my weekly "Free Things To Do" column (it comes out every Monday), or check the monthly calendar of recurring annual events.

With the guidance of professional stargazer Tony LaConte, visitors to the Center will be able to observe the Venus Transit through special solar-filtered telescopes and to photograph the event through telescopes using their own digital cameras. Free with paid general admission to Challenger Space Center (the Center opens at 10 a.m.). Venus Transit starts at 3:08 p.m. Paid admission also includes the opportunity to visit the displays and exhibits at the Space Center, including the Smithsonian exhibit, "An Astronaut's Life - Articles Flown in Space," on loan from the National Air and Space Museum. The presentation and telescope viewing is appropriate for people of all ages and a wheelchair-accessible telescope will be available.
