Every year Wine Spectator announces which restaurants around the country offer the best wines. In 2012 there were 82 restaurants in Arizona that received an award from this well-respected magazine, and 54 of those were in the Greater Phoenix area. Restaurants in Tucson and Sedona accounted for most of the rest of the awards.
Gone from last year's list are:
- Litchfield's at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park
- Bloom in Scottsdale (closed)
- Tarbell's in Phoenix
- Cheuvront in Phoenix
- Morton's in Phoenix
- Noca in Phoenix
- Geordie's Restaurant in Phoenix
- Beckett's Table in Phoenix
- Shula's in Chandler
- Eddie V's in Scottsdale
- Palm Court in Scottsdale
- Wildfish in Scottsdale
This year there are almost as many new additions as deletions. You can see the current list of restaurants with award-winning wine lists here. Do you agree with the deletions? How about the new additions? At how many of the 54 restaurants in the Phoenix area have you dined? I have been to 37 of them, so I still have some work to do. You can see my restaurant reviews of many of them, and you can write a mini-review of any of them that you have experienced.
It probably won't surprise you to learn that many of these restaurants participate in Arizona Restaurant Week. That means that you can enjoy a very reasonably priced three-course prix-fixe meal -- that leaves you a little extra money to try a fine glass of wine!
