In this issue: Shark Week, bowling for a cause, stand up comedy, a musical for kids, join the world for yoga and The Price is Right.

This column includes announcements of seminars, workshops, community events, fundraisers and other programs for which there is an admission charge, a donation expected or you are otherwise expected to spend money, such as shopping events. Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

If you are looking for programs or activities where there is no charge for admission, you can check my weekly "Free Things To Do" column (it comes out every Monday), or check the monthly calendar of recurring annual events.

Events are presented here in date order.

What: Shark Week at Sea Life Arizona
When: Now through August 19, 2012.
Where: Sea Life Arizona, Tempe
The new exhibit Shark Discovery is a great complement to Shark Week, showing guests the truth behind popular misconceptions of sharks. On-site activities for Shark Week include: Wear a "fin" and receive $5 off! Wear your hair in a Mohawk, wear a fin on your back, or make a headband or hat with a 3D fin on it; Learn shark facts throughout the aquarium; Enjoy craft activities showcasing our "jaw"some friends; Participate in a scavenger hunt and word scramble activity; Listen to daily shark talks at 1:30pm and 4:30pm; Explore the new interactive Shark Discovery exhibit to learn more about the misunderstood shark.

What: Bowl for Freedom
When: Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Brunswick Zone, Tri-City Bowl, Avondale
Join the Avondale Mayor and City Council at "City Hall Comes to You". Residents are invited to come meet Mayor and Council and Bowl for Freedom. All bowling proceeds benefit Veteran services. Tri City Bowl offers Bowl For Freedom to help fund the purchase of recreational and therapeutic equipment for local VA hospitals and facilities. Each game is only $.50 (50 cents). Avondale's "City Hall Comes to You" events allow elected officials and city staff to be more accessible to residents, encouraging a one-on-one dialogue between residents and the city. During these informal gatherings, held at locations such as coffee shops, grocery stores, recreational venues and other locations in Avondale, residents can share their comments and ideas so the City can make informed decisions to best serve the public.

What: Loni Love at Stand-Up Scottsdale
When: August 23 - 25, 2012
Where: Stand-Up Scottsdale
Stand-up comedy for adults (21+) in downtown Scottsdale. ! Loni Love has been featured on Chelsea Lately and you may have seen her on TruTv's "Worlds Dumbest". General admission tickets start at $15 each. Five shows.

What: Desert Stages Theatre Presents 'High School Musical Jr.'
When: Friday, August 24 - Sunday, September 23, 2012
Where: Desert Stages Theatre, 4720 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale
The Children's Theatre presents the narrative of two students of contrasting backgrounds who discover young love amidst common obstacles and norms of high school. The Disney Channel hit features popular songs "Get'cha Head In The Game," "What I've Been Looking For," and "We're All In This Together." Described as a modern-day adaption of Romeo and Juliet, High School Musical debuted as a Disney Channel Original Movie in 2006. The film won numerous awards including a Billboard Musical Award for Soundtrack Album of the Year, two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Children's Program and two Teen Choice Awards for star Zac Efron as Television's Choice Breakout Star and Efron and co-star Vanessa Hudgens as Television's Choice Chemistry. Tickets online and by phone, $15.

What: Yoga Aid Challengers
When: Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 10 a.m.
Where: Imperial Ballroom, 7111 E. Tierra Buena Lane, Scottsdale
Two hundred local yoga teachers and practitioners will roll out their mats in celebration of local Yoga Aid Challengers who are raising money to support charities worldwide. Phoenix Yoga Aid Ambassadors Christine Thomas and Steve Price will host the event. Chanting, followed by asana (physical postures), a profound relaxation meditation technique called yoga nidra, a gong bath, great food and connection. On this day, attendees will be joining approximately 20,000 yogis in 20 countries in the effort to raise money through this energy-filled experience worldwide.

What: The Price is Right Live!
When: Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 7 p.m.
Where: Mesa Arts Center in Downtown Mesa
This interactive stage show gives audience members a chance to win amazing prizes. Players can win vacations, appliances, and even new cars by playing all of the classic games from the hit TV show, including Plinko, Cliffhangers, and the Big Wheel. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to participate in the hit game show The Price is Right Live at the Ikeda Theater. Even if your name is not called to play you still have a chance to win because guest's names are called out throughout the show to win prizes just for attending. Only those 18 and older will be eligible to be a contestant, but everyone is welcome to attend the show. Tickets are on sale now, prices start at $25 per ticket.
