Advance registration is required at some these events, so you might see them listed here weeks before they are scheduled to occur.

What: Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery Student Showcase
When: Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix
Watch students from Phoenix's Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery work on their guitars and hear about handmade guitar construction. These talented luthiers will showcase their works-in-progress. Make sure to visit the Roberto-Venn School of Luthiery exhibit in the "I Am AZ Music: MIM Celebrates 100 Years of Arizona Music" exhibition at the museum. Free with museum admission.
What: Vistancia's Food Truck Experience
When: Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Vistancia Information Center, 12026 W. Lone Mountain Parkway, Peoria
Food trucks will be located throughout the community's builder model homes by K. Hovnanian Homes, Meritage Homes, Rosewood Homes, Shea Homes, Taylor Morrison and T.W. Lewis by David Weekley Homes. Complimentary food samplings will be available to the first 400 guests. Specialty food offerings will range from Chipotle mushroom and mozzarella quesadillas, smoked beef brisket sliders, pulled pork on coleslaw, bacon mac and cheese bites and ancho chile braised steak tacos to vanilla, sea salt caramel and chocolate crème brulee; mini cupcakes, strawberry banana, orange and pineapple mango smoothies; with gluten free and vegetarian options. Blackstone Country Club will feature tours of the club and menu tastings from an active Paella station featuring pork loin, chorizo, clams, mussels, shrimp and saffron rice, located in the courtyard of the clubhouse. The Vistancia Information Center is located at the guard-gated entrance of Blackstone at Vistancia.
What: Macaw Fly Event
When: Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Pueblo Grande Museum, Phoenix
A free flight display featuring beautiful macaws, sun conures, and cockatoos. Chris Biro has been free flying and training birds for 20 years, and his free flight displays are not only an amazing thing to see but also educational. The sun conures and their impressive retrieval skills are striking. Their grace in flight will astound all viewers. In addition, the birds are incredibly friendly and love to interact with people. The event will include opportunity for questions and interaction with the birds. No additional cost with paid general admission to the museum.
What: Pilates-a-Thon
When: Sunday, October 28, 2012
Where: The Body Lab Pilates Arcadia Studio, 4414 E. Camelback Road, Phoenix
To raise money for The Ronan Thompson Foundation. Beginning at 7 a.m., Pilates instructors will lead participants in a 50-minute class designed for students of all levels. This five-hour event will include five 50-minute long classes, each starting on the hour. People can sign up for as many classes as they like, with a commitment of raising, or donating a minimum of $250 per class that they attend. The Pilates-a-thon is open to everyone. No experience is necessary, but be prepared for the most dynamic heart pounding, shirt drenching workout you have ever had! The event's proceeds will benefit The Ronan Thompson Foundation dedicated to finding a cure for neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer and creating a world-class research and care center dedicated to funding both traditional and non-traditional treatments.
What: Phoenix Youth Symphony Meets Daniel Katzen
When: Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Where: Tempe Center for the Arts
Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and $1 for children age 4 and younger. Additional fees apply when purchasing online. Seating is general admission. Katzen is a French horn teacher and player, and, since September 2008, has been the Associate Professor of Horn at the University of Arizona School of Music in Tucson. Prior to that, he was Second Horn in the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) from April 1979 to August 2008. He is a recitalist, chamber musician, clinician and soloist and has appeared in 22 states and 25 countries in 5000 performances and master classes. He can be heard on virtually all recordings with the BSO and the Boston Pops from 1979-2000, and has also recorded with the Empire Brass and other chamber groups.
What: Breathe Deep Phoenix

Where: Kiwanis Park, Ruben Romero Ramada Area, Tempe
A 5K walk and fun run. Breathe Deep Phoenix was launched in 2010 to increase awareness and funds for LUNGevity, a national charity devoted to the fight against Lung Cancer. This Halloween-themed event is stroller-, wheelchair-, bicycle- and pet-friendly. Expect a Halloween costume contest for adults, kids and pets plus kiddie train rides, photo booth, carnival games, kids Halloween crafts and more fun. Awards will be given to the top three individual fundraisers. Refreshments, music and a photographer will be part of the fun, and all participants will receive a LUNGevity t-shirt and chances to win giveaways. Check-in and registration will kick off at 10 a.m. The walk begins at 11 a.m. All proceeds benefit LUNGevity Foundation, the nation's leading private supporter of lung cancer research.
What: Rwandan Holocaust Survivor Immaculée Ilibagiza
When: Monday, October 29, 2012 at 7 p.m.
Where: St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3450 West Ray Road Chandler
Seton Catholic Preparatory High School hosts a special speaking engagement by Immaculée Ilibagiza, author of "Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust." Regarded as one of the world's leading speakers on peace, faith and forgiveness, Ilibagiza has shared her miraculous story with audiences from global dignitaries to school children of how she survived during the Rwanda genocide in 1994. She and seven other women huddled silently together in a cramped bathroom of a local pastor's house for 91 days as most of her family was murdered. Through prayer, she eventually found it possible to forgive her tormentors and family's murderers. $15 per person.
What: African Drumming Ensemble
When: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix
Journey though West Africa, with the drumming and folklore of Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Ghana, and Nigeria with rhythm in diverse musical contexts. Free with museum admission or $7 for performance only.
What: Tumbleweed Recreation Center Family Nights
When: Wednesday, October 31, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Tumbleweed Recreation Center , Chandler
Arts and crafts, performances and more presented by Chandler Recreation Division. Ages 1 to 12: $2 for Residents/$3 for Non-Residents; Ages 13 to 17: $3 for Residents/$5 for Non-Residents.
What: Light of Hope Celebration with Collin Raye
When: Friday, November 2, 2012. Silent Auction and VIP reception at 6 p.m., concert at 7 p.m.
Where: Mesa Arts Center
The Light of Hope Celebration with Collin Raye and David Osmond as MC benefits the organization One Life at a Time (OLAAT). The organization helps the young people of Central America overcome poverty by providing education, teaching technical skills and identifying better employment opportunities. OLAAT organizes service vacations that allow families to provide humanitarian service during a family vacation. #25 per ticket, must be purchased in advance. Free parking.
What: Avondale Writers Conference
When: Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Avondale City Hall, 11465 W. Civic Center Drive, Avondale
The West Valley Writers group is planning an entire day of workshops, networking and activities for writers. The theme of this the event is: Pen, Polish, Pitch, Publish, Promote! Attendees will gain valuable tips and insight from experienced writers and other publishing professionals on how to become successful at getting published. Writers (and would-be writers) of all genres are welcome to participate. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Conference proceeds benefit The Friends of the Avondale Libraries, a Not-for-Profit (501c3) organization.
What: An Afternoon With Jane Austen
When: Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Phoenix Art Museum, Phoenix
Joan Klingel Ray, PhD, Professor of English at the University of Colorado, and author of Jane Austen for Dummies, will entertain with a talk about Jane Austen for Smarties. Dennita Sewell, Curator of Fashion Design at the Phoenix Art Museum, will talk about Regency fashion and display Regency gowns from the museum vault.
Includes light refreshments and a free tour of the Phoenix Art Museum. $20 for JASNA members and $25 for non-members, registration required, deadline October 25, 2012.
What: Fall Soups
When: Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center, 5600 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale
From thin, flavorful consommés to dense, rich stews, soups are a fast, delicious and healthy way to feed a hungry family. Also master a few basic cooking skills, learn a few tricks of the trade and start to enjoy cooking in your own kitchen. Instructed by Kent McDonald, a certified personal chef. $10 supply fee will be collected at class. Preregistration required. Fee is $50 (non-Glendale resident $60).
