The Arizona Legislature has approved a measure to establish a state poet laureate. Now, the Arizona Commission on the Arts is looking for our first Arizona Poet Laureate. The person will be selected by an independent panel and will serve a two-year term.
Duties and responsibilities: offer public readings throughout the state and pursue a major literary project.
Pay: The position comes with a $2,500 annual honorarium to offset travel expenses. The honorarium is generated from private donations.
Who should apply: According to Jaime Dempsey, Deputy Director for the Arts Commission, someone who will "... champion the art of American poetry, inspire an emerging generation of literary artists, and educate Arizonans about poets and authors who have influenced our state through creative literary expression."
When to apply: Nominations are being accepted through Nov. 9, 2012.
