It has begun. The baseball players are reporting and practice sessions have started for Spring Training. By the end of this week, all 15 teams of the Cactus League will be holding full workouts for all positions at their practice fields around town.
This coming weekend, on Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17, 2013, the excitement will continue to build as the Spring Training Festival takes place in Scottsdale. There will be exhibits and ballpark food, mascots, games and special appearances. If you don't have enough foam fingers or team caps with fake hair included, all 15 teams will have gear for sale. I'm hoping that the 2013 official Cactus League tee shirt (yes, I get one every year) will be for sale. Maybe you'd like to print out this schedule and bring it along, because tickets will also be sold at the event.

- Westgate City Center in Glendale is offering free trolley service to Camelback-Ranch, home of the LA Dodgers and Chicago White Sox. The trolley leaves every 40 minutes beginning at 11 a.m. It runs during and after each game. The trolley stop is located on Westgate Boulevard across from Yard House. Fans who show their ticket stub to certain Westgate tenants can take advantage of some great deals, such as 20% off your food bill at Kabuki Japanese Restaurant; free cover and $10 Big Ass Dog, Fries and Beer at The Shout! House; 20% off total food bill (excludes arena event days) at McFaddens; 20% off one regular priced item at Just Sports; a complimentary bull ride at Saddle Ranch Chop House; 10% off your entire check (not valid when arena special event menu is in effect) at Johnny Rockets; free BBQ Big Dad Pork Sandwich with the purchase of any plate and two drinks at Shane's Rib Shack. There might be other specials, too, so hold on to those ticket stubs and ask wherever you go at Westgate. Ask about any restrictions that might apply.
- The Angels Spring Training Trolley is a free ride connecting Downtown Tempe to Angels home games at Diablo Stadium in Tempe. Game attendees also get free parking at select Downtown Tempe parking locations. Beginning Saturday, February 23 and continuing through March 27, 2013 (on home game days), two Spring Training Trollies will circulate between the Mill Avenue District and Tempe Diablo Stadium with pick-ups every 20 minutes. Trolley service will begin 2 hours before game time and conclude 30 minutes after the game ends. Fans can board the trolley at the Mill Avenue Trolley Stop located on the northwest corner of Mill Avenue and 5th Street (in front of Lotions & Potions). The trolley will deliver riders to the Tempe Diablo Stadium Stop located less than 1 block south of the ballpark's main entrance. Riders can get free parking at:
1. City Hall Garage (5th St just east of City Hall)
2. Centerpoint Surface Lot (5th and Maple Ave.)
3. Hayden Station Garage (enter either 3rd St just west of Mill or Maple north of 5th St.).
Parking validations will be provided on the trolley. The Mill Avenue Light Rail Station is within 2 blocks of the trolley stop, affording another easy transportation option. There are more than 100 restaurants, bars, retail shops, and entertainment options in Downtown Tempe. - In Scottsdale, Ollie the Trolley will expand service to the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies games at Salt River Fields. Service will begin at 11 a.m. daily and end at 5:30 p.m. with service extended to 11:30 p.m. on double header game days. The route from Scottsdale Fashion Square will head north on Scottsdale Road to Indian Bend where it will turn east. The ten-stop route includes the W Scottsdale Resort, Chaparral Suites, Lincoln/Scottsdale Road (transfer), Indian Bend/Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale Resort & Athletic Club, The Pavilions at Talking Stick (south side by Starbucks), The Pavilions at Talking Stick (north side by Ultra Star Cinema), Talking Stick Resort & Casino, Talking Stick Golf Club. This Cactus League service will take place from February 23 - March 28, 2013. You can see the exact schedule here.
