Arizona Gives Day

We have amazing people in Arizona who contribute to others in many ways all year long. On one special day in April, Arizonans are encouraged to donate to one of many nonprofits across the state by using a website established for this purpose.

The organizations that coordinate the effort and distribute the funds retain less than 7% of the money donated, so 93% goes directly to the organization(s) that you chose. Of course, you can always make a direct donation to any local nonprofit. Arizona Gives Day and the designated website is intended to make the process easy, as well as expose our citizens to Arizona nonprofits about which they might not be aware. Your donations are 100% tax deductible in Arizona and you will receive an email receipt. Donations are nonrefundable.

Last year, I donated to four organizations on Arizona Gives Day, none of which I had ever contributed to before. I selected one that helped children, one shelter, one educational organization and one cultural organization. There are hundreds of choices! I don't know yet which I'll pick this year, but I know that I will find some worthy causes to support.

What: Arizona Gives Day 2014, a 24-hour online giving initiative

When: April 9, 2014, until 11:59 p.m. Donations may also be scheduled in advance.

How: online at www.azgives.org, by credit card

How Much: Minimum donation is $10
