Phoenix Resident Glen Campbell Goes to Jail

Tuesday June 15, 2004
Phoenix resident and Grammy Award winner Glen Cambell was arrested last November for extreme DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and assault after he slammed into the side of another vehicle and left the scene. Witnesses to the crash followed him to his home, where police were summoned. Glen wasn't exactly cooperative, kicking a police officer while they tried to subdue him. Today he received his sentence, and learned that no matter who you are, you'll go to jail if you drink and drive.

Glen Campbell pleaded guilty to extreme DUI and leaving the scene of a property damage accident. He was sentenced to 10 nights in jail, and will be allowed work release from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. He will be on probation for two years, pay fines and fees of about $2,000, and must have an ignition interlock device in his car for a year. Glen Campbell has already served a 90-day suspension of his driver's license. He is also forbidden from consuming alcohol while on probation.

Best known for his hits like By the Time I Get to Phoenix, Rhinestone Cowboy, Gentle on My Mind and Wichita Lineman, Glen Campbell had had 27 top ten hits during his career. The 68 year-old entertainer still performs.
