In 2002 Cirque du Soleil came to Tempe, Arizona with its performance of Dralion, after having been away from the Valley of the Sun for more than twelve years. The people of the greater Phoenix area must have convinced Cirque du Soleil that this was a worthwhile stop, since the company has just announced that they will come back in 2004.

Cirque du Soleil will bringVAREKAI (pronounced ver-ay-kie) to Scottsdale. VAREKAI is the latest live Cirque du Soleil touring production. The word VAREKAImeans "wherever" in the Romany language of the gypsies--the universal wanderers.Directed by Dominic Champagne, this production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to those who quest with infinite passion along the path that leads to VAREKAI.

This will be a limited engagement. As usual, Cirque du Soleil will set up its trademark blue-and-yellow Grand Chapiteau for the performances. This time, the location will be Westworld in Scottsdale. The announced date for thefirst performance of VAREKAIis April 29, 2004. Tickets go one sale to Cirque Club Internet Members only beginning October 1, 2003.
