Mesa, Arizona is one of the largest cities in the metro Phoenix area, and is located southeast of Phoenix. The Arizona Celebration of Freedom is held the Friday and Saturday before the 4th of July, so you can start celebrating early and still attend one of the many other 4th of July activities and events in the Greater Phoenix area.

Where is it?

Downtown Mesa. Here is a map of the downtown area. The following streets will be closed for the event: Main Street, from Morris just west of Robson to Centennial just east of Center Street; Center, Macdonald and Robson between 1st Street and 1st Avenue.

When is Arizona's Celebration of Freedom ?

Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2, 2011 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

What will happen at the Arizona Celebration of Freedom?

Friday: Motorcycles on Main and a Tribute to America inside the Mesa Arts Center. Along Main Street, bands and musicians will be performing. Downtown businesses including restaurants and other retail outlets will stay open to provide opportunities for unique shopping and dining.

Saturday: the American Iron Classic Car Show, Mesa Arts Center featuring the Salt River Brass Band playing patriotic songs and the official Salute to America program featuring musical performances, brief comments by Mayor Scott Smith and others. The event culminates with and a fireworks display choreographed to a special selection of patriotic songs.

On both nights you'll find “fun zones” and specific program areas up and down Main Street. The Wet Zone, a “you-will-get-soaked” area at the event, will have more than a dozen water activities. The Family Fun Zone includes games, pie-eating and watermelon-eating contests, carnival games for the kids. Two stages will feature live bands on both nights.

Admission and parking are free.

What else do I need to know about the Arizona Celebration of Freedom?

The streets and the sidewalks will be filled with entertainment, food/beverage vendors, arts displays, and people. Cox Freedom Plaza will be a place to honor our veterans and fallen heroes and see flags of American history. Enjoy the fireworks while still strolling the streets and enjoying everything else along the way.
