4th of July in Tempe

Free Bus Transportation Offered by City of Tempe

The city of Tempe Transportation program, Tempe in Motion, will make it easy to get to the July 4th Tempe Town Lake Festival with free extended bus service. Residents are encouraged to park at one of the following park-and-ride locations and ride the bus for free to the festivities.

  • Tempe Library Complex located at the southwest corner of Southern Avenue and Rural Road (Route 72, Orbit Jupiter)
  • Tempe Sports Complex located on Hardy Drive just north of Warner Road (Route 62)
  • Arizona Mills Mall located on Priest Drive near entry 1 (Routes 56, 92)
  • Tempe Marketplace located on the northeast corner of McClintock Drive and Rio Salado Parkway (Route 81, Orbit Earth)
Before 3 p.m., all Tempe bus routes will run according to Sunday schedules. After 3 p.m., the following bus routes will run every 15 minutes northbound to downtown Tempe until 8 p.m. with return service until midnight. All routes serving downtown will drop off and pick up on the southeast corner of Mill Avenue and University Drive in the Tempe Center parking lot.
  • 56 – Priest
  • 62 – Hardy
  • 66 – Mill
  • 72 – Rural
  • 81 – McClintock
  • 92 – 48th Street/Guadalupe
Due to the event, the following street closures will occur:

Mill Avenue between Curry Road/Washington Street and Second Street will be closed in both directions from 7 a.m. July 4 until 2 a.m. July 5.

Mill Avenue between Second Street and University Drive will be closed in both directions from 4 p.m. July 4 until 2 a.m. July 5.

Rio Salado Parkway between Hardy and Packard drives will be closed in both directions from 9 a.m. July 4 until 2 a.m. July 5. Access will be provided to the Tempe Center for the Arts via Priest Drive to Rio Salado Parkway. Access to the SunCor/Hayden's Ferry developments will be provided via Scottsdale Road to Rio Salado Parkway.

Eastbound Rio Salado Parkway between Priest Drive and Hardy Drive will be closed from 8:30 until 11 p.m. July 4.

Northbound Rural Road between University Drive and Rio Salado Parkway will be closed from 8:30 until 11 p.m. July 4.

Southbound Scottsdale Road between Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway will be closed from 8:30 until 11 p.m. July 4. One southbound lane will be provided to accommodate businesses south of Curry Road.

The Loop 202 off ramps at Scottsdale Road will be closed from 8:30 until 11 p.m. July 4.
