Every year Arizonans anticipate the coming of the Maricopa County Fair, where the emphasis is on education and fun, with a particular focus on agriculture.

What is the Maricopa County Fair?

The first Maricopa County Fair was held in 1934 and each year thereafter until in 1954 a fire forced it to close. It reopened in 1975 and has been going strong ever since.

The Maricopa County Fair is a nonprofit organization. The mission of the Maricopa County Fair is "to provide an entertainment venue that will attract Maricopa County residents of all ages to participate in educational and competitive activities that promote life skills, with special emphasis on agriculture. This includes providing the youth of our community a public forum to showcase their talents in arts, science and other educational projects."

When is the Maricopa County Fair?

April 15, 2009: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
April 16, 2009: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
April 17, 2009: 10 a.m. to midnight
April 18, 2009: 10 a.m. to midnight
April 19, 2009: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

What Happens at the Maricopa County Fair?

There are many exhibits at the Maricopa County Fair, including farm equipment, Four C's, farm tours and livestock exhibits. These are what really sets the Maricopa County Fair apart from your typical carnival. Kiddie Koral and Farm Tours will delight the younger children. There are marionettes and dog shows, fire safety demonstrations, and more. Finally, there are two stages of entertainment in addition to grandstand events, where you'll enjoy the talent of local singers, dancers, and entertainers.

How do I get to the Maricopa County Fair?

The Maricopa County Fair will be held at the Arizona State Fair Grounds at 1826 W. McDowell Rd. in Phoenix. Here are directions and a map to the Arizona State Fairgrounds. There is a $7 charge to park.

How much does it cost to get in to the Maricopa County Fair?

Adult: $7; Child 6-12: $4; children under 6: free. In addition to the admission charge, an unlimited carnival ride pass for $28 is available. You can buy tickets in advance online.

Are there any coupons or discounts available?

Bring 3 cans of food for donation to the fair on April 15 or 16 after 3 p.m. and receive half off admission for adults or free admission for kids 6-12 (does not include parking).

Seniors 55 and older are admitted to the fair for free on Wednesday April 15, 2009 (does not include parking).
