Typically the weather is still good in April, with warm temperatures but usually not yet in the triple digits.

These are many of the community events that you can count on year in and year out in April. All dates, prices, and activities mentioned are subject to change without notice. Check the web site or call to confirm information. The activities in this event calendar are appropriate for families unless otherwise indicated. If the event is free, I'll mention that, too.

  • Afternoon Concert Series
    Bringing live music to the downtown lunch scene from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the amphitheater stage at Civic Space Park, 424 N. Central Ave. Call for info 602-262-7490.

  • Arizona Special Olympics Summer Games
    2,000 athletes compete in track and field, powerlifting, gymnastics, softball skills, tennis and other events. Mesa Community College.

  • Arizona's Ultimate Women's Expo
    Thousands of women gather to see demonstrations, attend workshops and check out products and services for women at one of the largest trade shows in Arizona. Phoenix Convention Center.

  • Art is Alive in Surprise Festival
    Features the artwork of our community children, 1st through 12th grades. Pleine Air Art Contest for local painters. Free admission. Surprise.

    Crafters, jewelers, and artists displaying their work in an outdoor setting with live demonstrations and entertainment in Downtown Scottsdale on the Marshall Way Pedestrian Bridge. Family Friendly. Free admission.

  • Arts and Flowers at Phoenix Art Museum
    Presented by the Phoenix Art Museum League. For four days arrangements by dozens of Valley floral designers and garden clubs will be on view throughout the Museum’s galleries to complement and illuminate the Museum’s works of art. Demonstrations and workshops, raffle. Phoenix Art Museum.

  • Astronomy Evenings
    A talk (novice level) explaining facts about the solar system and the galaxy around the planet earth followed by observing the moon, several planets, star systems through a celestron telescope. Weather permitting. Registration required. Ages 8+. Pinnacle Peak Park, Scottsdale.

    This monthly flea market has a special annual event with vendors, music, food trucks. Cave Creek.

  • Birds in the Garden
    Join expert birders for a morning bird walk along the Garden trails. Everyone, including first-time birders, is welcome. Wear a hat, sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes. Bring binoculars if available. Desert Botanical Garden, Phoenix at 8 a.m. This activity is included in the regular admission fee.

  • Birds 'n' Beer
    Birds 'n Beer offers local professionals a fun and refreshing way to learn about Arizona birds and other wildlife while networking with fellow nature-lovers.
