June Festivals & Events

In a large metropolitan area like Phoenix, you might expect that there is always something going on. You are correct! Phoenix, Peoria, Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale and many other communities have recurring events of which they are proud.

These are many of the community events that you can count on year in and year out. All dates, prices, and activities mentioned are subject to change without notice. Check the web site or call to confirm information. The activities in this event calendar are appropriate for families unless otherwise indicated. If the event is free, I'll mention that, too.

• Concerts and Shows Scheduled For This Month in the Phoenix Area


• 2nd Friday in Mesa
  Live music, entertainment, art walk, prizes. Each month has a theme. Family friendly. Free admission. On Main Steet between Center and Country Club in Downtown Mesa.

• After Dark in the Park

• Arizona Derby Dames
  All-girl roller derby since 2006. Now playing on a banked track. Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix.

• Arizona Diamondbacks Baseball
  The Arizona Diamondbacks play professional baseball at Chase Field.

• Arizona Home & Building Expo
  Consumer trade show in Downtown Phoenix at the Phoenix Convention Center.

• Arizona Rookie League Baseball
  Minor League Baseball has 12 Rookie League teams in the Phoenix area. The 56 game season takes place in June, July and August. There are 12 teams in the Phoenix area. You can catch a game (free admission, usually in the evening) in Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale, Goodyear, Peoria, or Surprise.

• Audubon Arizona Film Festival
  Join fellow nature lovers for a silent auction, picnic supper and exclusive screening of a noted nature film. Harkins Camelview, Phoenix.

• Battle on the Bank
  Banked track roller derby contest. Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

• Bloomin’ Beerfest
  The event marks the anniversary of Leopold Bloom's fictional journey through the streets of Dublin in the James Joyce novel, Ulysses. Bloom’s journey included stops at more than a few pubs. Sample some of Arizona’s top craft brewers. Entertainment. Irish Cultural Center, Phoenix

  Over 600 of the Valley's wedding professionals help you plan your wedding. Phoenix Convention Center.

• Cabela's Kids Kamp
  Free programs on topics related to hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities for ages 9-13 at Cabela's in Glendale.
  In 2012: Every Monday evening (except when store is closed for a holiday)


• Downtown Chandler Art Walk
  Visit more than 70 artisans set up along the streets in front of the unique shops and cafes of Historic Downtown Chandler. Free.

• Family Farm Day
  U-pick garden, children's activities, watermelon eating and corn husking contest, train rides.

  Brunches, concerts and other ideas for things to do with Dad.

• Festival of Light's Annual Wine and Beer Tasting Festival
  Over 50 varieties of wine and beer to taste, appetizer tasting from several local restaurants and live entertainment. Ahwatukee.

• Fiesta Mall Entertainment
  Mariachis, magicians, dancers, bands -- several entertainers each Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Center Court at Fiesta Mall in Mesa. Family friendly. Free.

• Firecracker Softball Tournament
  An annual event with free fireworks show and ice cream with mascots. Games start at 7 p.m. Friday night kick-off has Kidz Zone at 6:30 p.m. and fireworks show at 9 p.m. Rose Mofford, Softball Complex 9833 N. 25th Ave.

• First Friday
  Visit more than 100 downtown Phoenix art galleries, studios and art spaces. Free.
  In 2012: First Friday of the month


• Flashlight Tours at Desert Botanical Garden
  See, hear and feel the desert night including, nighthawks, tortoises, insects and night-blooming flowers. Bring a flashlight and wear comfortable shoes. Tours begin at 7 p.m. Recommended for families and children of all ages. Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix.

• Free Art Friday
  Preschoolers and their parents participate in an activity involving art and/or music. The theme varies from month to month. No registration required. Free. Tempe.

• Gilbert Spring Concerts in the Park
  Free concerts take place at the Freestone Park amphitheater, located by the lake. Gilbert. Bring a blanket or lawn chair.

• Grand Canyon State Games
  Olympic-style competition in judo, weight training, baton twirling, table tennis and more.

• Hot Summer Nights Concert Series
  Hear live bands on High Street at CityCenter of CityNorth. Receive special restaurant and shop discounts and come for face painting, balloon artists and more in the Kids Club Zone. All concerts are free and open to the public, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

• Itty Bitty Beach Party
  Free poolside parties at select City of Phoenix pools for preschoolers and their parents (ages 6 and under) with games, dance contests, swimsuit contests, refreshments and prizes.

• Juneteenth Pageant & Hair Show
  Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the United States. Food, music, vendors. Arizona stylists and barbers will compete for trophies and prizes at the Pageant & Hair Show. Crowning of Miss Juneteenth and Mr. Juneteenth. The Multi-Generation Event Center, 2136 N. Grace Blvd, Chandler.

• McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park Free Concerts
  Scottsdale. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair and enjoy a variety of music from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Train and carousel rides are available during all concerts for a small charge.
