For most people, Halloween is a time for fun and costumes and parties. Here are some safe alternatives to trick or treating for you and your family. They are presented here in date order.
Zombie Walk
Phoenix, AZA Zombie Walk is a gathering of people who dress up as zombies and walk through city streets. Participants are encouraged to stay in character as Zombies, through how they walk as well as how they communicate. Held in conjunction with First Friday.

Boo-tastic Chandler

Children ages 5 and above will have a “howl” of a time listening to Chandler ghost stories, participating in some favorite Halloween games and making “spooktacular” crafts. Two sessions are available, and space is limited. The first session will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The second session will be from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Participants must pre-register by phone.

Halloween RadioActive
Glendale, ArizonaFor adults, an organized geo-caching hunt competition. Children will be able to participate in their own age appropriate hunt to practice their navigational skills, with the guidance of a parent or older sibling. For everyone, organized games and activities, friendly competitions, geo-caching and orienteering adventures for all ages. Pre-registration required.

Pumpkin Painting Extravaganza

In 2007: Wednesday, October 24 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. (6-8 year olds); Thursday, October 25 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. (9-12 year olds).
Family Halloween Carnival

Entertainment will include live performance acts including MAD SCIENCE and community groups. Interactive children’s activities, two costume parades, rides, the KinderCare Arts and Crafts Zone, K-9 demonstrations from Gilbert Police Department as well as PHADD (Phoenix Area disc dogs), and additional performances by youth groups. Pumpkin Decorating area sponsored by The Future Farmers of America. All attendees, including adults, are encouraged to attend the event in costume. Event admission is free for children under age 4, $3 for ages 5 and up. Additional charges for midway activities. Parking is free.

Halloween Monster Bash & Balloon Illumination

From their web site: "Some of the highlights of this event are the Parade of Costumes Contest, carnival games, hot air balloons that the kids can trick or treat from, inflatable activities, Mad Science, make-n-take crafts, story-time, puppet shows, entertainment and much more." Some activities require a minimal fee. Free admission with canned food to help benefit the St. Mary’s/Westside Food Bank Alliance.

Howling Halloween Bash

Howlin’ Halloween Spooktacular

Boogey Night Halloween Weekend at Martini Ranch

On Friday, Martini Ranch hosts “BOOGEY NIGHT” presented by The Edge. The Best Overall Costume will win a trip for two to Las Vegas that weekend. Halloween fun continues on Saturday and Sunday nights.
