Scottsdale Tidbits: For a long time Scottsdale has been known as "The West's Most Western Town." Scottsdale was voted the Most Livable City by the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 1993, it is consistently named among the top cities in the country which to raise children, to retire, and is rated the number one resort community in America. Scottsdale is located just east of Phoenix.
Scottsdale Geography and Reputation: Geographically, Scottsdale covers about 185 square miles. Scottsdale is referred to by some (who don't live in Scottsdale) as "Snotsdale" generally relating to the fact that Scottsdale is often associated with wealthy residents and expensive resorts. Although there is quite a bit of wealth in Scottsdale, and some of the most beautiful and expensive resorts in the country are there, there are also middle class neighborhoods in Scottsdale.
Scottsdale Vital Statistics (as of 2000 Census): The population of Scottsdale at the last census was about 202,700; 22% of the people in Scottsdale are over the age of 60, and 52% are between the ages of 25 and 59. More than 44% of the population of Scottsdale have at least one college degree. The median household income in Scottsdale is about $58,000.
Scottsdale Major Employers and Industries: Tourism and hospitality make up the major portion of the economic base of Scottsdale, but there are also financial services, healthcare, retail, electronics and mid-sized corporate headquarters. Major employers include Scottsdale Healthcare, Motorola, Mayo Clinic, PCS and Vanguard.
Scottsdale Education: Scottsdale's public school system is highly rated nationally. Scottsdale is home to Scottsdale Community College, as well as several technical and vocational schools.
Scottsdale Major Attractions: There is a great deal to see and do in Scottsdale. Some of my favorite attractions are Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesen, the Scottsdale Center for the Arts, and, for shopping, Scottsdale Fashion Square.
Scottsdale Median Home Price: The median price of a new home is about $409,000, and the median price of a pre-owned home is about $262,000.
