The Bottom Line

We each had a salad or appetizer and an entree, and only one person ordered dessert. Excluding beverages, and before tax and tip, the bill came to about $37 per person. There is no doubt, this is one of the expensive restaurants in town. With wine, and a dessert for everyone, expect to pay $50 to $60 per person.

Pros

  • A good choice for a special occasion
  • Patio seating offers nice views when weather permits

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Valet park, or walk a pretty long way

Description

  • Southwestern style cuisine.
  • Reservations strongly recommended
  • Located at 2000 Westcourt Way, Tempe, Arizona 85282, Phone: 602-225-9000

Guide Review - Top of the Rock

Four of us went to dinner at the Top of the Rock Restaurant in Tempe. We ordered Baby Blue Salads, Caesar Salad and Shrimp Chowder to begin and all were excellent. Interestingly enough, we ordered a variety of entrees: lamb chops, chicken, salmon and steak. We loved them all! The pecan torte we shared for dessert was very tasty. The presentation of the meals is exquisite and very appetizing. I would define the menu as southwestern-style.

Top of the Rock is the fine dining establishment associated with a local resort, The Buttes. Its location affords a lovely view of the city, which is further emphasized by the glass enclosures and availability of patio seating. There are separate sections to the dining room, so one doesn't get the feeling of it being crowded or too noisy. The workings of the kitchen are visible from some of the tables. This is a classy environment, suitable for special occasions or trying to impress someone!

The service was prompt, professional and friendly. Don't expect to get in before 8 or 9 p.m. if you don't have a reservation.
