The FBR Open is one of the first PGA golf events of the calendar year. Formerly known as The Phoenix Open, it is also the best attended golf tournament of every calendar year. Last year more than 500,000 people visited the event. Because of the layout of the course and the parking, this event never sells out. Everyone who wants to attend can go. Why is it so popular? Could it be because of the location in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona? Could it be because the weather is usually wonderful and sunny? Could it be because the best golfers in the world come to play in this prestigious event? The answers are yes, yes, and yes.

The 2009 FBR Open will be held on January 25th through February 1st at the TPC in Scottsdale, Arizona. Here is the schedule of events for the tournament.

In 2008 J.B. Holmes got a check for over $1 million when he won a playoff against local favorite Phil Mickelson. Can he repeat? Johnny Miller was the last person to win The Phoenix Open twice in a row in 1975. Since then Hogan, Demaret, Mangrum and Palmer have also repeated as champions in successive years. Arnold Palmer is the only player to win three in a row. He did it in 1961, 1962 and 1963.

That was only the 13th playoff in the 73-year history of the FBR Open. The last time there was a playoff, it was 1996 and Phil Mickelson beat Justin Leonard.
