Phoenix and Scottsdale Summer Golf Deals

Hot Weather Means Hot Arizona Golf Rates

By , About.com Guide

On the previous page, I introduced you to some of the premier (and expensive) Arizona golf courses, some of which are nationally acknowledged as top courses. Although there are many courses outside the greater Phoenix area, if you had to name one area as being the premier Arizona golf destination, it would have to be the golf courses of Scottsdale. After those, in the mid-priced and lower priced ranges, you can still find some great Arizona golf courses all around town:

In the East Valley, Las Sendas, designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr., is a relatively new but very popular golf course. Winter rates go up to $160, but in the summer you can play Las Sendas for between $59 and $79. It is a high desert course and the greens are large and undulating.

At the Wigwam Resort in the West Valley you will find three courses, Gold, Blue and Red. The Gold is the premier award-winning course, so try to get on that one. Regularly about $130 to play, in the summer you can play Gold for $40 and Red or Blue for $37.

Designed by Ben Crenshaw, Talking Stick is owned and operated by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. The North Course made the top 100 in Golf Magazine. In the summer $40 will buy you a round, compared with $175 in the winter.

Associated with the legendary resort, The Arizona Biltmore has two golf courses: the traditional Adobe course and the newer links course. In high season, expect to pay up to $175 to play, but in the summer you can tee off from about $34.

Gold Canyon Golf Resort in the East Valley has two well rated courses, the premier one being Dinosaur Mountain. In the winter it will cost you up to $189 to play, but in the summer Dinosaur Mountain will cost between $54 and $64 and the Sidewinder Course will cost only $39 to $44.

In Chandler you should visit Ocotillo, especially if you enjoy playing around lots of water. Carts are restricted to paths. You can play for $35 to $65 in the summer compared with $175 in the winter. There are 27 holes, 24 of which have water and there are 112 bunkers. Bring two extra sleeves of balls.

At South Mountain you will find Raven, an unusual course with over 6,000 pine trees. Over 7,000 yards long (if you choose to go that way), Raven will cost you $170 in prime season, but only between $35 and $79 in the summer.

It is fun to play the moguls of ASU Karsten in Tempe. This links course charges up to $105 in the winter, $30 to $39 in the summer.
