Tips for Attending the Safeway International Golf Tournament in Arizona

  1. There is usually good signage on the road approaching the event telling you what lanes you need to use.
  2. People with special passes, like media and volunteers, usually park in one of the lots right at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, which means you'd turn left at Superstition Mountain and follow the road. There are signs and volunteers directing pass holders to the various lots. People who don't have special passes will park on the south side of 60, and take a shuttle bus to the tournament. There are no other parking choices. Parking is free.
  3. People attending the Renaissance Festival will be taking I-60, too, and that street after the highway ends can become very congested at peak times. Be patient, and leave extra time on those days if you are on a schedule.
  4. Wear comfortable shoes. You may do a lot of walking, and not all areas are flat.
  5. The best days to get autographs are on Pro Am days and before and after practice rounds. That's Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Golfers walking from the clubhouse to the practice greens, from the practice greens to the driving range, and to and from the media tent (near the 18th hole) are most likely to grant an autograph.
  6. Even on Pro Am and practice days, it is not appropriate to ask for an autograph during a round of golf, although some ladies will sign in between holes. A good place to get autographs on those days are the finishing holes, 9 and 18, when their rounds are over.
  7. You may bring a camera to the event on Pro Am and practice round days, but not during the tournament, which is Thursday through Sunday.
  8. On Thursday and Friday, when the entire field is playing, tee times usually start very early, around 6:30 a.m. and players will tee off from both the 1st and the 10th holes as their first holes. After the final cut is made, for Saturday and Sunday play, tee times usually start at about 7:30 a.m.
  9. Please leave your cell phone home or in your vehicle.
  10. Unlike other golf events, you are not forced to walk through a hundred vendors to get to the golf course. It is worthwhile, however, to visit the Safeway tent. There are usually lots of goodies given away there, Thursday through Sunday.
