It seems like baseball never stops in the Valley of the Sun. The Phoenix area and its visitors love baseball. The season may be over for the Arizona Diamondbacks by the time October comes around, but there is plenty of baseball to tide us over until Spring Training begins this winter. This is Arizona Fall League Baseball. These guys may not all be Major Leaguers (yet), but it isn't Little League either.
Arizona Fall League ("AFL") is owned and operated by all 30 Major League baseball clubs. It is considered the step before entry into the major leagues for many players. Each August Major League Baseball holds a draft to determine who will be sent to the Arizona Fall League teams. Each of the 30 Major League Baseball teams selects six prospects to play in the AFL. Six teams will be assigned 30 players each, and they are organized into two divisions. The three teams in the East Division are the Mesa Solar Sox, Salt River Rafters, and the Scottsdale Scorpions. The three teams in the West Division are the Glendale Desert Dogs, Surprise Saguaros, and the Peoria Javelinas.
The 2013 Arizona Fall League schedule calls for games to be played between October 8th and November 14th with the Championship Game to be held on November 16th at Scottsdale Stadium.
