How To Be An Arizona Cardinals Fan

By Judy Hedding, About.com

Being an Arizona Cardinals football fan can be awfully challenging. After all, their record has been less than stellar since arriving in Arizona. If you do even half of these things, you qualify as an avid, die hard Arizona Cardinals fan!
Difficulty: Hard
Time Required: Not much

Here's How:

  1. You must have loved Jake Plummer, even when he threw interceptions (24 in 1999), and be able to recall how great he was at A.S.U. Even though he's left the team now, you must remember him fondly.
  2. You must be willing to host or attend a tailgating party in August, complete with barbecue, even when it's 100 degrees.
  3. You must not care too much about an effective offense.
  4. You paint an angry red bird on your face.
  5. You arrive at the Cardinals game two hours early so you can go to the Chuckbox for burgers and onion rings and eat them in a parking lot set up with picnic tables.
  6. You admire the Bidwell family's patience. After all, how long has it been sonce the Cardinals won anything?
  7. You must not be bothered by the fact that at several Arizona Cardinals home games there are more people rooting for the opponent than for the home team.
  8. Don't get too attached to any particular Arizona Cardinals coach, particularly if he has a pleasant personality.
  9. You believe that a new stadium for the Arizona Cardinals will make the team play better.
  10. You are a season ticket holder, and each year you go to the Arizona Cardinals Cheerleader autograph session to update your scrapbook.
  11. You must truly love football, because the Arizona Cardinals are all we've got.
  12. You must be an eternal optimist.

Tips:

  1. If you don't have a parking pass for your tickets get to the game very early, or else you are in for a very long walk.
  2. Make sure you know if you have seats or bleachers, and whether or not there are backs. Bring pads to sit on in any case, and those seats with backs if there are none.
  3. Seat pads also help greatly to delineate seat space, which is very small on bleachers and can easily be usurped by large neighbors.
