It is important to note that neither local calling areas nor dialing plans within the 520 and 928 area codes will change due to area code relief. This means, for example, that if you are in area code 520 and make a local call to another city that was 520 before but is 928 now, it is still a local call. Do not dial a "1" before that ten-digit number, though, because that will make it a long distance call. This is the same as the system in the metro Phoenix area, where we still have to dial the ten digit number to get outside our area code, but within the Phoenix area the call is still a local call as long as we do not dial a "1" before the ten-digit number. Customers affected by ten-digit dialing should have been notified in advance by their local telecommunications provider.
The making of emergency calls to 911 will not change, nor will calls to directory assistance.
Important reminder! If you will have a new area code, notify the people who call you. Make plans to change your area code on things such as personal stationery and checks before the mandatory dialing date. Also, be sure to reprogram any automatic-dial, call forwarding or speed-dial numbers.
