About one-third of the earth's landmass is desert or semi-desert. They are found in the Americas, Africa, Asia and Australia. These regions have unique geologic features most often caused by wind and water erosion in the arid desert environment. The majority of deserts are found along the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn which lie north and south of the equator, respectively.
