You can't ride 'em, you don't need to feed 'em, and, thank goodness, they don't have to clean up after 'em. They are the horses of the Scottsdale Stampede, designed and painted by local artists and all sporting some unusual or whimsical theme. Other cities, like New York, Chicago, Cincinnati and New Orleans, have had animal-themed public art displays. And Rhode Island has had their Mr. Potato Head Festival (is that an animal or a vegetable?). But no matter what type of creature is displayed, it means fun and tourism dollars for the city that sponsors it.

Here are some photos of the horse statues. There were sixteen of horses galloping around the streets of Scottsdale, at the time of the display in 2001. These are the ten most photogenic horses that visited our city.
