NoRTH - The Mood

NoRTH wasn't really what I expected. I was prepared for a place that was a bit stodgier, maybe even snooty. It wasn't. While it is technically a chain, and part of the Fox Restaurants Concepts family, it doesn't have a formula feel to it. The web site says that it has a sexy atmosphere. I'm not sure about that. With metal chairs and deliberately displayed duct work, I'll buy the "loft" description.

NoRTH - The Damages

Lunch sandwiches and pizzas range in price from $8 to $13. A nicely sized lunch salad will cost you between $11 and $13, and a lunch entree is in the $11 to $16 range. A nice selection of wines by the glass at prices from $6 to $22 is available. The dinner menu prices are likewise manageable, with a nice assortment of pizzas, pastas and main dishes that won't require too high a credit limit.

My Review of NoRTH

Note: Since this review was written, NoRTH's concept was redefined and it moved. It is no longer the same NoRTH that it was when I ate there!

We stopped for lunch at the Kierland location. The prices were unexpectedly reasonable for North Scottsdale. In the dining room and outside we saw ladies with babies in strollers, families taking a break from shopping, couples and a business lunch or two. We ate in what we later discovered was the bar, next door to a packed main dining room.

We tried four different lunch items: Smoked Turkey & Provolone Cheese sandwich ($9), "Not Your Typical" Chicken Lasagna ($13), Flattened Chicken sandwich with Sautéed Spinach and Melted Smoked Provolone ($10) and the Turkey Chopped Salad with Avocado, Golden Raisins, Almonds & Feta ($12). I can't tell you which of the four we liked the best -- they were all wonderful. I even loved the side salad that came with the sandwiches, a pasta/vegetable combination that had just the right texture and flavor.

We didn't try the pizza at NoRTH, but we will next time, because the ones we saw being delivered to tables around us looked scrumptious. If you are looking for a casual, fresh tasting dining experience, I can highly recommend NoRTH.
