Linda Hunt
Recipient of the YWCA's
2001 Tribute to Women Award
Category:
Business Leader

Ten outstanding women in Maricopa County were named honorees in the YWCA’s Tribute to Women 2001 Awards.  The annual awards recognize women whose lives and accomplishments reflect the YWCA’s mission to empower women and eliminate racism.

In the category of Business Leader, the honoree is Linda Hunt. Linda Hunt is the Chief Administrative Officer at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. She is responsible for all operations of the hospital and medical center which includes Barrow Neurological Institute and Huger Mercy Living Center. Linda has worked to eliminate racism and discrimination throughout her career—most notably by example—by demonstrating how senior management in any organization can solicit, listen and respond to the needs of employees from all racial backgrounds. In her career, Linda’s accomplishments in encouraging diversity include developing a 48-hour discharge plan for indigent, mostly minority, mothers that improved infant outcomes, and working with community and Junior League leaders to jointly fund a teen mom and abuse research project. Since joining St. Joseph’s Hospital, Linda has created an atmosphere of openness and implemented clinical and non-clinical employee counsels who work together to improve the internal culture of the organization. She has committed herself to a hospital where she can best serve and care for all residents, but especially the poor and underserved, and in an area of the city with an ethnically diverse population. Linda is active within the community on a personal level, but through her work as a chief administration officer, she directs expenditures in excess of $30 million to help fund health-related services to the community, including the MOMobile, a mobile van that provides prenatal care for pregnant women in underserved areas; A Place Called Home, a safe and affordable housing alternative to homeless individuals with HIV/AIDS; and Wellness On Wheels (WOW Mobile Clinic) which provides basic health services to uninsured families.  Linda is a Phoenix resident.
