Ten outstanding women in Maricopa County were named honorees in the YWCAs Tribute to Women 2001 Awards. The annual awards recognize women whose lives and accomplishments reflect the YWCAs mission to empower women and eliminate racism.
In the category of Healer/Caregiver, the honoree is Janet Kizziar. Janet Kizziar, Ph.D., is a psychologist who conducts stress management and wellness behavior seminars for corporations, spas, educators, and mental and physical health professionals. Her informative and in-depth presentations have made her a much sought-after lecturer and keynote speaker for workshops, universities, conventions, conferences and cruise ships. Janet has appeared on many network television news and talk shows and been a guest lecturer and psychological consultant for major health spas including Canyon Ranch, Rancho La Puerta and The Golden Door. She addresses the issues of teambuilding and burnout and has written numerous articles on the holistic approach to health and well-being. As an author of several books, Janets doctoral dissertation on group hypnosis prompted her continued study of self-hypnosis for health, healing, habit control and mood enhancement. In Arizona, Janet is a founding member of the Board of Directors for Fresh Start Womens Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping undereducated, underskilled and underemployed women seek self-efficiency. Through her work at Fresh Start, Janet has been a key contributor to every aspect of the organizationfrom mentoring and teaching to developing educational programs and organizing major fund-raising events. She serves on the programming/operations committee for the future Fresh Start Womens Resource Center. Janet also plays a key role on the Governors Commission on Violence Against Women. Appointed in 1994 by Governor Symington, Janet serves on the education committee which is responsible for helping to gain public awareness about the issue of domestic violence. Janet also acts as a mentor for the commissions Miss Arizona Scholarship Foundation, teaching young women about this important topic so that they can go out to make presentations to local schools and civic groups. Janets extensive volunteer work and board memberships have helped many organizations that deal with todays issues, including child abuse, AIDS, family violence, displaced homemakers, rape prevention and intervention, drug and alcohol abuse, co-dependency issues and adolescent pregnancy. Janet is a Scottsdale resident.
