Wigwam Resort Independence Day Celebrations - 2011

Fireworks, Food and Fun Open to the Public

By , About.com Guide

Litchfield Park is the home of Luke Air Force Base and the Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa. Litchfield Park is located west of Phoenix, in what is considered the southwest part of Greater Phoenix.

On the next day, July 4, 2011 there is a family swim activity, Splash Bash, at the Litchfield Park Pool. You can get details for that event here.

If this isn't the 4th of July event you are looking for, try the Greater Phoenix 4th of July Celebration Guide.

What is it called?

Great American Picnic and the Fireworks Show

Where is the Wigwam's Independence Day Celebration?

At the Wigwam Resort, of course. Here is a map to downtown Litchfield Park.

When is it?

Sunday, July 3, 2011 fro, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

What will happen at the Great American Picnic and Fireworks Show?

Enjoy classic American BBQ with Wigwam dogs, cheeseburgers, firecracker grilled chicken, a baked potato bar, apple pie and more. There will be childrens activities and live entertainment by the Dina Preston band starting at 6:30 p.m. The fireworks show will take place at about 8:30 p.m.

What does it cost?

$15 for adults, $7 for children ages 5-12, and free for ages five and under.

What else do I need to know?

If you aren't interested in the barbecue, the fireworks show is free and open to the public. Viewing areas and guest seating along the fairway of the Blue Course Tee #1 are available on a first-come basis. Over 2,000 people attended last year, and The Wigwam expects larger crowds, so get there early. Spectators at the fireworks show are asked to bring canned and non-perishable food, or a cash donation, to benefit St. Mary’s Food Bank. No outside food and beverage is allowed for guests who will be entering the public viewing area of the fireworks show.

The Wigwam is hosting an exclusive adults-only Fireworks Party at Red Allen’s on July 3 at 6 p.m. For a $50 per person, enjoy two cocktails, live entertainment and patio seating with views of the fireworks show that evening and an array of heavy hors d’oeuvres, buffet items like BBQ pork empanadas and smoked corn enchiladas; Carolina BBQ and mac and cheese; California fish tacos and tropical salsa; and New York striploin. To purchase tickets, call 623-535-4973.

Call the Wigwam to ask about special rates and packages for resort stay with all these events included. On Sunday morning, the Wigwam Farmer’s Market (7-11 a.m.) features fresh produce and artisan creations, as well as a special wild animal petting zoo from Wildlife World Zoo at 10 a.m. and patriotic displays from Luke Air Force Base. On Monday afternoon, July 4, 2011, Luke Air Force Base will conduct a patriotic flyover.
