The Fourth of July Freedom Fest is a four-day event with concerts, fireworks, all-American fare and poolside fun, available June 30- July 3, 2012. Each night of the Fest there will be live music under the stars on the Princess’ Lagoon Lawn. The Freedom Fest tribute concerts, with a patriotic introduction and a fireworks finale, are free for overnight guests or those dining in La Hacienda or BOURBON STEAK. The pre-show is at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:45 p.m. Fireworks are at 8:30 p.m.
Fourth of July Freedom Fest Schedule
- Saturday, June 30: Super Diamond – Super Diamond (led by Surreal Neil) performs Neil Diamond songs, delivering a high-octane show full of sing-along hits such as “Sweet Caroline,” “Forever in Blue Jeans” and appropriately for Freedom Fest, “America.”
- Sunday, July 1: AbbaFab – A tribute to the music of ABBA, this production is a fantastic throw-back to the ‘70s-‘80s, with glitter-rock costumes, sets and popular hits such as “Chiquitita,” “Dancing Queen,” “Waterloo” and “Fernando.”
- Monday, July 2: Paperback Writer – This Beatles experience takes the audience from the Ed Sullivan-era to the “Yellow Submarine” years, playing favorites including “She Loves You,” “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “I Want to Hold Your Hand” and “Twist & Shout.”
- Tuesday, July 3: Zowie Bowie – From their Scottsdale roots, they have quickly become one of the most popular acts in Las Vegas, bringing the crowd to their feet with today’s hottest dance, hip hop and Top 40 hits. Featuring Chris Phillips, Marley Taylor and their high-voltage band.
Summer Fireworks, Every SaturdayEvery Saturday through Labor Day weekend, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess presents a five-minute fireworks show at 9:15 p.m. for overnight guests or local residents who may be dining in the resort restaurants or enjoyed an evening treatment at Willow Stream Spa.
Saluting Heroes, Helicopters on ‘Freedom Hill’, Sky-Diver & Spa Boot CampFreedom Hill: The 5th Hole of the TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course, adjacent to the lagoons at the Princess, will become “Freedom Hill.” There, Apache and Black Hawk helicopters will land July 1-3, where guests can get up-close to these fascinating aircraft and meet the pilots. At Freedom Hill and at other locations around the resort, the military will have more to check-out including a rock-climbing wall, pedal go-carts and Humvees. The Army will also offer special boot camp exercise classes at Willow Stream Spa, give water survival demonstrations with gear at the East Pool and will spend time with kid campers at Bobcat Billy’s Clubhouse.
Honor Our Military and Service PersonnelEach concert will begin with a Presentation of the Colors. on Saturday, June 30 and Tuesday, July 3 there will be a flyover by the Deer Valley War Birds-4 Yaks.
Dana Bowman Drops InA true inspiration will fall from the sky before the concert on Tuesday, July 3. Dana Bowman is a retired Sergeant First Class with the U.S. Army, where he was a Special Forces Soldier and a member of the elite parachute team, the Golden Knights. After a sky-diving accident in 1994 where he lost both of his legs, Bowman has continued as a motivational speaker, working with other amputees and those physically-challenged – and yes – he still sky-dives and will make a special drop-in for the Freedom Fest.
Patriotic, Poolside!At the 6,000 square-foot Sonoran Splash pool complex, with two, 200-foot waterslides, families have a ball on deck with red, white and blue frozen drinks, glitter tattoos, water balloon tosses, watermelon eating contests and maybe even a visit from Uncle Sam on stilts! At night, the Sonoran Splash turns into the Techno Waterslide After Dark, with fog, lasers, colored lights and disco music, sure to get the heart pounding for the big splash down. Families can also float and watch a Dive-In movie, nightly during the Fest. The Techno Waterslide and Dive-In movies are offered Friday and Saturday night weekends through Labor Day.
Cookouts, Cocktails & PedisHot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad and an All-American pie buffet! Guests will find their favorites with poolside barbecues and buffets in LV Bistro. All-day Adult Dining Passes are available on holiday weekends for $69 and Kids All-Day Dining Passes are available every day in summertime for $25. For grown-ups, Stone Rose Lounge will serve holiday-spirited specialty cocktails.
Willow Stream Spa will offer “Berry Bliss” Pedicures, a red, white and blue treat for the feet. Warm, buttery blueberry milk softens and soothes skin before a sweet exfoliating scrub. The treatment finishes with a generous helping of fresh strawberry fruit cells and whipped shea butter for a vitamin-packed massage. The price is $79, plus 18 percent gratuity and includes full-use of the Willow Stream’s 44,000 square foot spa facility, featuring its scenic rooftop pool and canyon waterfall.
Fourth of July Vacation Packages Benefit Military CharitiesRoom rates during this special weekend start at $159 per night. AAA members receive a 10 percent discount off room-only rates year-round. For the $179 per night package you will receive a daily $50 resort credit that can be applied toward spa, dining, tennis or Bobcat Billy’s Clubhouse. Each room has a maximum of two adults and three children and wrist-bands will be provided at check-in. The package includes the concerts, fireworks and any complimentary resort activities.
A portion of the proceeds from every Freedom Fest vacation package benefits military organizations such as the USO, the Arizona National Guard Emergency Relief Fund and Friends of Freedom, a local non-profit organization that provides scholarships to military families.
Special Military RatesAll summer long, the Fairmont Scottsdale will say “thank you” to the military by offering an $81 room rate through September 5, 2012. Willow Stream Spa is also offering a military special for overnight or day guests, with 45-minute massages, facials, manicures and pedicures for $45-$99, with full-use of the spa facilities for the day. During the Freedom Fest, military personnel will receive 50 percent off food and beverage at Stone Rose Lounge when they show their military ID.
Legacy Events at the PrincessThe Fourth of July Freedom Fest is the second of the Princess’ “Legacy Events,” a series of memorable special events for the local community and Arizona visitors. The other event is Christmas at the Princess.
