Tips for Attending Pro Beach Volleyball

Enjoy the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Events

By , About.com Guide

If you've never attended a pro beach volleyball event sponsored by the AVP before, it's a lot like going to a major tennis tournament. Here are some tips to help you get the most out of your AVP Tour experience.

How does seating work at the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball event?

There are various tiers of seating, ranging from General Admission and Reserved Seats to VIP seating and packages including hospitality. Reserved seats are the closest seats to the court, offering fans a chance to see the action of the AVP up-close, or in a shaded deck to enjoy the sport and party atmosphere combination.

Seating is bleacher style (no backs), with the exception of suites and areas within the Party Deck.

How do I know if I'll see the men or the women play?

Fans can see both men’s and women’s games each day of the pro beach volleyball tournament.

How many matches would I expect to see in a session?

There are between four and ten matches during each session of the event.

Are there breaks or intermissions between pro beach volleyball matches?

Video clips and music play between matches for fans, but the time between matches is never long.

Are cameras allowed?

Cameras, video cameras are allowed. Professional video cameras are not allowed unless the user has coordinated with the AVP.

Do the athletes give autographs?

The athletes at these events are extremely accessible, however, most of the athlete’s sponsors set-up times for autograph signings at different areas in sponsor village. The signings are always announced over the AVP loudspeaker. The sponsors are set-up in tents, usually giving out samples and/or getting fans involved. It’s a fun and interactive part of the AVP events.

It can get pretty hot in Glendale during the tour season. Any tips?

Don't forget your sunscreen, your hat, your sunglasses, and to drink plenty of water. Fans can always beat the heat by taking a walk through the tents in sponsor village and grabbing some free samples from the AVP sponsors. As far as the evening sessions go, believe it or not it can get cool in the desert. Consider a light jacket if you think it will be breezy.

Is there anything else I should know about attending a pro beach volleyball AVP Tour event?

Fans who want to catch the finals should arrive early as center court can become crowded quickly.

The AVP provides fans with world-class beach volleyball in a beach-party atmosphere. The games are always great to watch, the sponsor village is cool and there’s great music to keep the crowd pumped up!
