The Great Cajun Cook-Off is a cooking competition among amateurs in the categories of gumbo and jambalaya. Local residents vie to win the title of Best Gumbo and/or Best Jambalaya. Judging is done by both popular vote (attendees taste and vote) and a panel of local celebrity judges.
The first Great Cajun Cook-Off & Food Fest took place in 2006 and became an annual tradition after that inaugural event. It is a fundraiser for the Cajun Cactus Foundation charities. In 2009 those charities benefiting are the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity, Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona, New Life Center and St. Mary's Food Bank. Waste Not in Phoenix will get all leftover food donated by event vendors and competitors.
