Ten Things To Know about the Cave Creek Balloon Festival Before You Go
- If the conditions are windy, the balloons might not be inflated. Hope for good weather!
- When I attended in 2011, there was quite a crowd. Get there early for VIP/handicapped parking -- the lot was full by 5 p.m.
- There are places around the neighborhood where people parked on the street. An alternate lot is provided and shuttle buses will bring you to the event. I suspect that the alternate parking lot filled up, too, later on.
- There are extra charges for kids activities and tethered balloon rides.
- The balloon activity doesn't begin until dusk, and even then it is a slow process as the balloon teams take their turns inflating the hot air balloons for your enjoyment.
- Kids, kids, kids! If you don't like being around kids, this isn't the event for you. Did I mention kids? And lots of strollers.
- The lines for everything were very long. If you were interested in getting your child into a bouncy house, it was an exercise in patience. Food lines got very long after about 6 p.m. Bring cash.
- No pets, outside food or lawn chairs are permitted, but blankets are.
- It will get cool out in an open area in the evening in January, so dress appropriately. Bring an extra layer for after sundown.
- I have never seen more cameras at an event, so don't forget yours!
